‘Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch’ Announced, Featuring Elite Xeno-Hunting Specialists
On the 22nd, during the ‘Warhammer Skulls 2026’ showcase, Games Workshop unveiled ‘Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch,’ a new title developed by Complex Games and to be published by Frontier Developments.
‘Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch’ is the latest entry in the Chaos Gate series, which traces its roots back to the 1998 turn-based SRPG ‘Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate’ developed by SSI. The original title depicted the exploits of Space Marines fighting against the invasion of the Chaos Lord Zymran through turn-based tactical gameplay. The series was later rebooted with the 2022 release of ‘Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters,’ and it has continued to maintain its legacy with the release of the classic version of ‘Chaos Gate’ on Steam on April 14 of this year, spearheaded by Random Games.
While the previous title focused primarily on the Grey Knights, a chapter specialized in battling Chaos, the newly announced game features the Deathwatch, an elite unit dedicated to purging Xenos (alien forces). Players must lead their chapter to fight against Chaos and various alien threats, including Tyranids, Orks, and T’au, that have besieged the sector. The reveal trailer showcases these alien factions and the Deathwatch Space Marines with modern, high-fidelity graphics. The video concludes with the Deathwatch Space Marines shouting their chapter’s battle cry, heightening anticipation among fans.
As a turn-based SRPG, the game emphasizes the tactical satisfaction of deploying various units—including Space Marines—in the right positions and utilizing terrain to overcome powerful foes. The strategic depth is further expanded with the inclusion of diverse Imperium of Man weaponry and classes, such as Leman Russ tanks, Dreadnoughts, Sentinels, and Imperial Knights. Additionally, the game features a ‘Skirmish Mode’ for players who wish to focus purely on combat, independent of mission objectives.
Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch’ is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Further details can be found on the official website.
