Sony Discusses Potential Future PlayStation Plus Price Hikes
Top Sony executives discuss the potential rise in PlayStation Plus prices.
Gaming is in a tumultuous time. Across all platforms, hardware prices are increasing. Also, subscription prices remain a major talking point. In Japan, Nintendo recently raised the price of its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. Microsoft recently lowered the prices of its XBOX Game Pass subscription service, but announced another increase in hardware prices.
Sony Explains Its Strategy for Future PlayStation Plus Pricing

During a recent translated Q&A from a company meeting in June, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Hideaki Nishino, Studio Business CEO Hermen Hulst, and Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development Lynn Azar addressed the potential increase in PlayStation Plus prices and the service’s essential role in the PlayStation business model.
It is not explicitly stated who answered the question, but the executives were asked how people should think about the pace and scale of future price increases for the subscription platform. In response, they stated that they are always trying to balance the value of the service against consumer costs and that they are using multiple factors to improve profitability and the efficiency of content acquisition.
“PS Plus offers strong value to players, and we continually balance that value against customer cost. We are using multiple levers to improve profitability, including pricing, tier mix, and content acquisition efficiency. Higher tiers now account for 40% of subscribers, which reflects strong demand for the service. PS Plus remains a key driver of profitability, and we achieved record-high PS Plus profitability in FY2025.”
