Kosovo bans import of sheep and goats from Albania after plague outbreak
The Food and Veterinary Agency has imposed a temporary ban on the import of sheep and goats from Albania, following the confirmation of cases of PPR disease (pest plague) in the Dibra Region.
The decision was taken in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, as a preventive measure to protect the livestock sector and avoid the spread of the disease in Kosovo.
According to the official announcement, the ban applies to the entire territory of Albania and will remain in force until further notice, depending on epidemiological developments.
Authorities have announced that controls will be increased at all border points and in areas along the border with Albania, while border municipalities have been instructed to impose strict measures to restrict the movement of livestock.
Meanwhile, farmers have been urged to increase vigilance, avoid contact of herds with other animals, and immediately report any suspicious cases to veterinary services.
